Hellboy | Bust Sculpt

Heya,
I did a quick Sculpt for My Class at ECV.
It's a Hellboy Tribute
As part of my ZBrush course at ECV, I needed a model to demonstrate some essential techniques, especially around maps extraction. So, I quickly sculpted this piece to illustrate the process.
And what better subject than Hellboy created by Mike Mignola ?
Guillermo del Toro’s films, which, to me, remain the definitive adaptation of the character.
Workflow Breakdown:
| ZBrush | Sculpting and details
| Substance Painter | Quick texturing & map baking
| Houdini | Lighting - Lookdev and shading
| Photoshop | Final touches, adding details. Refining the texturing. Colors etc....
I've always been fascinated by Del Toro’s creatures and bestiary. His approach to character design is truly impressive. blending folklore, mythology, and practical effects. From Pan’s Labyrinth to Crimson Peak and The Shape of Water.
This exercise was a great way to combine teaching and passion while exploring the fine details that make a design truly stand out.
What's your favourite creature from his films?
If I had to pick a favourite? The Pale Man from Pan’s Labyrinth. That eerie design, the unsettling movement, and the sheer symbolism behind the character... pure genius. It’s the kind of creature that stays with you long after the movie ends.
